Game Design Document

I created my first ever Game Design Document, I felt like the reading task this week helped me a lot on my journey. Dundoc has some extremely useful game design document templates that are nicely organised into different titles such as technical, sounds, game introduction etc.

I looked at other students game design documents whenever I was stuck on specific things and I found it 100 times easier. The template looks daunting at first but I promise it's not as bad as it looks!

Here is the link to my Game Design Document

Here is a picture of my game design document (might have the chance the name to my game title)

I will make several changes throughout the semester so I can fill out as much information as possible. Right now I haven't made the game so when my vision comes alive I will include screenshots and information architecture.

  1. Hi Anna, It Mia here,
I just read your blog post about your 'Game Design Document' there and I have to say it was very good also the name of your game is so unique and clever. The plot of your seems very interesting I am intrigued to see it when it al comes together as I haven't seen any others like it from our year as yet. I really liked your game Flow chart it was great to see a bit of colour on the page to brake it all up ! Your document was full of so much information that were great for me as I was able to imagine how your game will look in my head. Best of luck when creating the game I know it'll turn out great.

  2. Hi Anna!
I just read you Document and I really like your game idea and the way you have everything In sections which makes it very clear and easy to understand .I also think you did a great job with all the information you have in your Doc.I think it would be great if you added some sort of sketches or image to your document just to make it more visual. But overall I think you did a great job and im looking forward to see your game in action!!!

  3. Hey Anna,
I just finished reading your GDD I must say it was very well laid out and easy to follow. I love the idea of the sphere moving through a obstacle course as such. I think this is a very different idea to anyone else in the class so I have to commend you on that. I think your flow chart helped me to visualize your idea in more detail and understand how the game would work. I think if you had some images of what your basic idea of the game should look like it might help to visualize the game a bit more. I am really looking forward to see how your game turns out.

  4. Hi Anna, Love your game Idea and your GDD, your GDD is clearly detailed and straight to the point and looks like you know exactly what your doing, I hope it goes well for you.

I was just wondering is there any purpose for the shinny gem rewards? do they have any impact on the players performance or are they just rewards? if not I think it would be cool if you could give the shinny gem rewards some kinda purpose like when the player collects some it gives a boost or a little speed increase but that something that just got my attention because it felt as if the player could skip the shinny gem rewards and focus on the challenges so I thought it would give the player a reason to collect them. anyway I really hope making your game goes well for you and goodluck with everything else.

  5. Hi Ania!! Just got through reading your Games Design Document! You game sounds like it's going to be unreal! It's really easy read which is great, and I think the game is iconic, there's been so many so instantly people will know how to play! I hope I get to play it when everything goes back to normal. I feel like from reading you GDD that I would know how to make it which is the aim so hey good job! Miss you a lot!! :( -Megan

  6. Hey Anna! I just finished reading your game design document and think it sounds like a really fun idea! I also love the name. I see that at certain points there will be jump and speed power ups and was wondering if the shiny gem reward that the player is collecting will also have some sort of power up? One thing that I think could be a good edition is a timer - it could possible make it more competitive for the player if they are racing against the clock to complete the level. My brother got a PS5 yesterday and I was playing some random free game today on it and it actually sounds quite like this, you should look out for it - if you can with that awful description I just gave. Anyway hope the game goes well for you and good luck with the rest of your modules!!

  7. Hi Anna
I really liked your game design idea, it looks simple, not too complicated, which is good. The Flow chart is very clear and easy to follow the steps that you are planning to implement in the game design. If you add some images to your GDD, it will help us visualize the game that you are going to create: sketches, prototype, illustrations. However, you did a great job, and best of luck to your game design final.
