Game Modifications (Player Communities) - Reading 09

For this weeks task we had to work on the textbook that Shaun set up which has all of our written papers on it. There are over 8 chapters and each chapter is based on different categories. My paper is on Game modifications like i've been working on and it is seen in chapter 5 - Game worlds. This task wasn't so hard because we only had to fill in the bibliographies, author info and check your understanding sections.  I made a true or false quiz on h5p which I thought was going to be more difficult to figure out but I eventually got it to work. Here is the link if you want to read my paper first which is on this blog and answer the questions! Other than that we had to put in bibliographies which was easy because I had them saved on refworks. I put in a little information about myself as well as a profile picture. My author bio I enjoyed working on the textbook and I'm really proud of my accomplishments this year. I didn't think I could write a paper on game modification

Hello! For this weeks task we had to give critical feedback to two students in relation to their introduction and conclusion for the overall paper that they wrote. I don't really know how to give general feedback because I don't know how to describe what's wrong so I just left comments on what I thought they could change and gave them an example in their sentences. So I basically corrected their introduction and conclusion whenever they made a spelling mistake or if they had started a new sentence where it didn't make sense.  I didn't receive feedback myself although one person commented saying that my conclusion and introduction was good. I tried to look back over my own stuff and see what I needed to correct but I honestly didn't know where to start without receiving feedback. I didn't mind though because a lot of people are swamped with work since it's basically easter.  For the h5p programme I was so confused on what to do. Their website is tricky to

HELLO EVERYONE For this weeks task I had to write out the introduction for my paragraphs as well as a conclusion. I wanted to introduce my themes without spoiling the rest of the information that I had on my topics. I asked my boyfriend for some tips on how to go about starting the introduction and I also looked through the different academic articles so I could find common themes within all of the introductions. For the conclusion I wrote a little bit about every theme as well but I don't know if I done it right. Nevertheless I will fix up my mistakes once I get my peer reviews because I find them really helpful. I feel like the conclusions are the worst because you've talked so much in your meat section that you don't know how to conclude it in a small paragraph.   Link to my google document  For my "check your understanding" draft I decided on a word search instead of a quiz to make it more easier and entertaining for myself. I ended up picking 10 words from my

Ruby's Adventure - Unity Tutorial 07

The time is finally here, the last ever tutorial of ruby's adventure! I'm so glad I have this out of the way so I can focus on other assignments that are due soon. Overall I really enjoyed the Unity 2D tutorials better than the 3D. They're way easier in terms of placing artefacts and characters and the 2D aspect handles incredibly smoothly on the laptop.  Audio In this tutorial I just added some background music that was already provided in the folders which I made sure to loop so it doesn't automatically end after one play. This was kind of similar to the 3D tutorials because of I added an audio source onto an empty game object. I also learned something new today called the "PlayOneShot" feature which plays a sound once through the audio source. This made it so when Ruby picked up a health item, it played the correct sound once. I also added an audio clip called "Robot walking_Broken" and I messed around with the volume of it with the 3D sound sett

Hi!  For the reading task this week we decided to take a break from writing and focused on refining the paragraphs for our themes. Our lecturer shared a document with our names on it and we had to give out feedback to two people that we got assigned with.  I also got feedback from my lecturer on one of my themes which was incredibly helpful so I had an idea where to start. He recommended that I describe what fan programmers are which I did on my first theme. I said that "fan programmers is another term used to describe the modding community". I didn't really get a clear definition when I searched it and I was seeing it a lot in my academic articles so I wanted to include it in my own paragraphs. I also refined the second theme and took out a sentence which didn't fit within the paragraph. I also made the title of the theme shorter and I just said "what motivates the modding community and the skills they learn in the process."  Another piece of feedback I rec

Unity Tutorial 06 - Ruby's Adventure

Hello everyone and welcome back to my blog! Today I finished up the 6th tutorial for Ruby's adventure which took me a while to finish since I kept getting errors but I managed to fix it after a few days of pain. Visual Styling - User Interface - Head-Up Display   For this tutorial we edited the UI so that the health-bar would appear in the top left corner of the screen. It was a little bit tricky when it came to resizing and positioning the images so that they wouldn't squish or anything but I managed to get there in the end. I also had to add Ruby's portrait in in addition to the health bar mask. I scripted the health bar so every time Ruby took damage by the robot, the health-bar would go down. I had an issue where I named the script "UL" instead of "UI" and i didn't realise it so the script wouldn't work at all but I found the issue and solved it.  World Interactions - Dialog Raycast In this tutorial we put an animated frog into the scene and

Welcome back to my blog! Today I finished writing up about my themes that I highlighted from different annotated bibliographies. I thought it was going to be way harder but after I followed a sentence structure I was able to write a paragraph or two each on the themes that I picked out. I don't really know if I done the paragraphs correctly but I'm happy that I tried. I feel like going through the whole process helped significantly with writing out everything. I have way more knowledge in doing a literature review now and I'm more confident in my writing skills. I think I improved tremendously in many areas such as academic writing and reading. After I had to write about my themes, I realised that I don't have enough information on some of the topics that I talked about but it's nice to know where I can improve in some areas. I had to go back and read over the academic articles and pick out important parts which I could develop on in relation to my themes. Neverthe
