Game Modifications (Player Communities) - Reading 09

 For this weeks task we had to work on the textbook that Shaun set up which has all of our written papers on it. There are over 8 chapters and each chapter is based on different categories. My paper is on Game modifications like i've been working on and it is seen in chapter 5 - Game worlds. This task wasn't so hard because we only had to fill in the bibliographies, author info and check your understanding sections. 

I made a true or false quiz on h5p which I thought was going to be more difficult to figure out but I eventually got it to work. Here is the link if you want to read my paper first which is on this blog and answer the questions! Other than that we had to put in bibliographies which was easy because I had them saved on refworks. I put in a little information about myself as well as a profile picture.

I enjoyed working on the textbook and I'm really proud of my accomplishments this year. I didn't think I could write a paper on game modifications with the help of annotated bibliographies but it will definitely get me set up for the future whenever I get the opportunity to write one again which I definitely will be prepared for!

What is a Game, Anyway? The following consists of key excerpts taken from an article by Ian Schreiber. It aims to discuss one's definition of a what a game is.  Schreiber (2009) discusses that many games have similar contrasting ideas. For instance, dots and boxes present the user with a simplistic objective of whoever attains the most boxes wins the game. The same mechanics apply to Tic-tac-toe. Therefore, it is important to clarify the differences between games. A substantial amount of individuals have clashing definitions in terms of what a game is, but all have equal elements. The components of an enticing experience can incorporate conflict, a set of rules, a problem solving task as well as an out of body experience yet all require interaction. A game does not essentially call for technology for the experience to be stimulating, there can be colossal subsets to a game. Beta - Steer Clear

 I finally finished my game and I'm extremely proud of it! I might not have been as accurate with my game design document as I hoped but I still made a working game at the end of the day and that's all that matters. I tried to work with what I had and if something didn't go the way I wanted it to then I would move on to the next thing.  This week I decided to focus on the start menu and I followed a tutorial that I found on Youtube here . It was a really easy tutorial to follow and I spent some time looking for the best possible main menu image and how the text was going to look. I managed to get it working without any issues and I was so excited that I didn't break the game or anything.  I also worked on the end screen and I followed this tutorial on Youtube and I put in a very simple "You Win!" text and changed the background to a dark blue / purple. I had to player test my game and I kept dying but I finally managed to get to the end and it worked. I hate
