Game Modifications (Player Communities) "Doing" Reading 08


HELLO EVERYONE

For this weeks task I had to write out the introduction for my paragraphs as well as a conclusion. I wanted to introduce my themes without spoiling the rest of the information that I had on my topics. I asked my boyfriend for some tips on how to go about starting the introduction and I also looked through the different academic articles so I could find common themes within all of the introductions. For the conclusion I wrote a little bit about every theme as well but I don't know if I done it right. Nevertheless I will fix up my mistakes once I get my peer reviews because I find them really helpful. I feel like the conclusions are the worst because you've talked so much in your meat section that you don't know how to conclude it in a small paragraph.

For my "check your understanding" draft I decided on a word search instead of a quiz to make it more easier and entertaining for myself. I ended up picking 10 words from my paragraphs :

10) Curseforge

I wanted to do a quiz but when I was brainstorming the questions and the answers, they just didn't seem right to me and they felt a little bit boring and vague.

What is a Game, Anyway? The following consists of key excerpts taken from an article by Ian Schreiber. It aims to discuss one's definition of a what a game is.  Schreiber (2009) discusses that many games have similar contrasting ideas. For instance, dots and boxes present the user with a simplistic objective of whoever attains the most boxes wins the game. The same mechanics apply to Tic-tac-toe. Therefore, it is important to clarify the differences between games. A substantial amount of individuals have clashing definitions in terms of what a game is, but all have equal elements. The components of an enticing experience can incorporate conflict, a set of rules, a problem solving task as well as an out of body experience yet all require interaction. A game does not essentially call for technology for the experience to be stimulating, there can be colossal subsets to a game. Beta - Steer Clear

 I finally finished my game and I'm extremely proud of it! I might not have been as accurate with my game design document as I hoped but I still made a working game at the end of the day and that's all that matters. I tried to work with what I had and if something didn't go the way I wanted it to then I would move on to the next thing.  This week I decided to focus on the start menu and I followed a tutorial that I found on Youtube here . It was a really easy tutorial to follow and I spent some time looking for the best possible main menu image and how the text was going to look. I managed to get it working without any issues and I was so excited that I didn't break the game or anything.  I also worked on the end screen and I followed this tutorial on Youtube and I put in a very simple "You Win!" text and changed the background to a dark blue / purple. I had to player test my game and I kept dying but I finally managed to get to the end and it worked. I hate
