Game Vision Statement - Steer Clear

Steer Clear is a 3D platform game allowing the player to control a Sphere through a meandering pathway filled with challenging obstacles as each level progresses.

You get dropped into a vibrant location with towering mountains in the background. A peaceful song plays in the background. The pathway in front of you meanders through chaos and the only way is forward. As you proceed to roll forward, you encounter a puddle of mud that does not seem initially threatening but as soon as you move towards it, it begins swallowing you like quick sand. Once fully submerged by the puddle you fall through the map. GAME OVER you'll have to start again! Now you're fully prepared on what's about to happen.

This time you jump over the puddle successfully and immediately meet three moving obstacles that sway from left to right  in random formations. You have to get your movements perfectly timed in order to see what's on the other side. After you manage to accomplish those three frustrating obstacles you stumble upon a big blue gem floating in mid-air. You don't hesitate whatsoever and roll towards it. The gem gives you 20 points. You quickly realise that the platform the gem floats on is a jump pad! You try out your jumping skills and notice that the jump is much higher than your original one. You rotate yourself heavily to the right and come across some long jumping obstacles, You jump one, two, three times and finally make it! You slowly get the hang of things as you reach a moving platform that floats from one side of the pathway to the next, you roll onto it and wait for the platform to reach the other side. After you reach the other side you get greeted with another gem! This one is a much brighter pink which awards you another 20 points. You continue on the pathway, twisting and turning through a thin, rope like obstacle like a professional acrobat and you encounter a speed pad that boosts you a little faster than your current pace. You come across some huge boxes that are can easily topple over if you make one wrong move! You move through the jump pad and hop onto the tall box which isn't too wide and is also a bit wobbly but you keep going, you jump across more boxes and get to the other side! You receive another shiny gem with 50 points this time. You can see the end now! There is a beautiful flag pole waiting for you, just a few more rolls. Before you have a chance to move, you come across another boost which triggers your speed even faster than the previous one. You're dashing towards the ending and before you know it a message pops up, "You Win!" it says.  After that whole experience you feel relieved but before you have any time to think about the level you have just accomplished you black out and get dropped onto another one, this time way more difficult than the previous level. Congratulations but it's not over yet!

This game contains

  • Speed and Jump Boosts which give you the opportunity to get through challenging obstacles!
  • Shiny gem rewards after facing challenges so you get a sense of accomplishment showing off your skills.
  • Various challenging obstacles that move in different directions.
  • The chance to unlock different coloured spheres after you've gathered 100 gems!
This is a 3D platform game allowing the player to proceed through challenging obstacles. After accomplishing a certain amount of levels the player will be able to choose their own way - whether it's a complicated pathway leading to death or a much gentler approach. It is a helpful way for the user to practice along or if the player gets stuck.

The levels are replayable so you can face the harder pathway whenever you feel like you're ready.

This is a Unity built game intended for PC or Mac Users. This is a game designed for all ages 10+ recommended.

This game is inspired by Trials Evolution S.P.H.E.R.E. which people accomplished world records on 807,585m. It is an extremely difficult game with no checkpoints so players tend to rage quit. But it is widely popular and talked about because of its game records! This game is also inspired by an old 2000 Nokia game called Bounce. Which is still available on Android and iPhone users. It has over 10 million downloads and 4.2 stars with 63K reviews. It has been a staple in all of our lives as it was on all of our old flip phones, it's an extremely nostalgic game.

  1. Hi Anna, reading your game vision statement gave me a good feel for the game you are planning to make as its really detailed, the game seems like it will be quite challenging to play but I like your idea of adding the shiny gem rewards as it will definitely encourage the players to keep going. How many levels are you planning to add into your game? Your game vision statement contains so much information that I feel that I don't have anything to add. Good luck with making your game :)

  2. Hey Anna, really cool blog you got here very well done and was a pleasure to read. I really like that you are going with the idea of making a 3D platformer game, the idea you got sounds really cool and peaceful. some 3D platformer games can get a bit much sometimes when playing so its nice that you wanted to go with something simple and easy. Everything that you want to implement into he games sounds like a lot of fun but I wonder what type of camera angle your going to have, is it going to be a changing in rotation camera or is it going to be just static something to think about really. What if you have some sort of storyline behind the game so some sort of background story for instance, Mario has a storyline of trying to save peach from the tower I wonder if the character in your game could have a story behind it, might be a cool thing to add but overall this was a really cool blog and best of luck with your game in the future.

  3. Heya Anna
I really enjoyed reading. It was really interesting and very well written. Your game is very clearly well thought out. It makes me think that my game idea should be more thought out. Overall I like the idea. I like how you got inspiration from " Trial Evolution S.P.H.E.R.E.". This is because I remember having a lot of fun playing this game as a kid. It's cool how you took a simple 3D idea and found a way to implement elements and make a challenge. I was wondering if there is a way to choose your ball design or colour or is it just the same for everyone. All the best
    - Cian.
